My Pillars
Inclusivity
I will advocate for SAMU events and services that embrace diversity and foster an inclusive environment for all students. In the past, I have championed events that ensure students' age, religion, or values are not barriers to participation in campus activities. I will continue working to create spaces where every student feels welcome and represented.
Engagement
I am committed to enhancing student engagement through innovative approaches that encourage participation in SAMU initiatives. This includes celebrating our athletes' and students' achievements and fostering a vibrant campus culture where all students feel connected and involved.
Mental Health
I will champion promoting mental health services, including peer support, wellness programs, and psychological services, to ensure students have access to the support they need. Additionally, I will work with MacEwan to amplify student and volunteer voices in key decision-making processes, such as changes to programs like PAWSS, ensuring transparency and student input.
Affordability
I will collaborate with stakeholders to address the financial challenges students face, including the rising costs of food on campus, housing, and academic supplies. As Vice President of Student Life, I will work closely with the SAMU General Manager and Council to advocate for budget raises on services students want more of (Breakfast Club, The Pantry, Student Groups).
My Achievements
Councillor of the year award
I was honoured to receive the Councillor of the Year Award for my dedication to student advocacy and governance and my contributions to the Strategic and Engagement Committee. Through my work on the Students' Council, I have focused on amplifying student voices, fostering collaboration, and raising awareness about SAMU and the various opportunities available to students.
Ujima Fellowship Leadership Development Program
As a student in the Ujima Fellowship Leadership Development Program, I was part of an initiative created by the African Center aimed at addressing structural inequities and increasing diverse representation in leadership. This experience has helped me grow as a leader and advocate for systemic change while embracing the principle of collective responsibility.
City of Edmonton Writing Contest
I had the honor of being selected as the winner of the Senior Writing category in the City of Edmonton Youth Council's Edmonton Photo & Writing Contest. As English being a third language for me, I used to struggle with writing, and not in a million years would I have thought I would to not only apply but also win an essay contest. This recognition not only underscored my commitment to creative expression and community engagement but it also gave me the confidence boost to leave my comfort zone.
504 Aircadet Gradute with athletic award
I graduated from the 504 Air Cadets program as a sergeant, reaching a senior-level position in just two years. I was also recognized for my dedication to discipline, teamwork, and perseverance in my athleticism with an award at graduation. I also concluded this journey with an amazing trip to Europe, where I had the privilege of attending the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge in France, Belgium and the United Kingdom.
